World of Drunken Master [1979]

 

Hey gang, we're back with a new episode. On this one Stu and John are joined by the mysterious Frank Blackman (who agreed to show only part of his face) to talk the 1979 Joseph Kuo film World of Drunken Master. An obvious knock off of the Jackie Chan smash hit from the year earlier, this one is a much more comical approach to the style of Drunken Master, but, is it as good as the mighty 7 Grandmasters? Carry On Cowboy

 

Hey friends, after nearly a month absence (sorry fam, it's been hectic AF at MMC headquarters) we're back with our second episode for 2022.

On this one, Hunter, John and Stu cover, for the first time ever, in our nearly 12 year history, a Carry On film. A series loved by 2 of us, and completely foreign territory to another. We look at what is considered one of the premiere Carry On films in the (very lengthy) series.

Again, we apologise for the absence. We have a slew of episodes in the can and recorded, so we will be back to our regular weekly schedule. Thanks for sticking with us.

The Great Rock ’N’ Roll Swindle [1980]

We are back for our first episode of 2022. On this one, we discuss the mockumentary film , the Sex Pistols 'The Great Rock 'n' Roll Swindle. Publicly despised by Johnny Rotten, and dismissed by the rest of the Sex Pistols, we look at the (mostly) fictional telling of the Sex Pistols story, through their notorious manager Malcolm McLaren.

Masterfully directed by legendary filmmaker Julien Temple, this film is an oddity, and a must watch, even for non Pistols fans, if not for for its visuals, and the very limited footage available of Sid Vicious.

It's an obnoxious, bawdy and shocking tale, but one that must be seen. Thanks for sticking with us in the off period, we are back at normal transmission.

Hey friends, back with a new episode. On this one, Hunter and John discuss the 1975 Strayan action flick - The Man from Hong Kong. Starring the blink-and-you'll-miss-him-James-Bond George Lazenby, and the impossibly difficult Jimmy Wang Yu, directed by Leprechaun 3 master filmmaker Brian Trenchard-Smith.

The lads talk about Wang Yu, a lot about BT-S, and lament what would have been for the ex car salesman turned one time James Bond actor Lazenby.

Featuring a knockout performance by Hoffman, (one of his best) along with a string of more than noteworthy other cast performances. This is one definitely worth checking out.

The Psycho Sequels

Hey friends, this week we finish off our Horror month. The MMC are joined by Eric Zaldivar, jumping back in on Mother's rocking chair, to look at the Psycho Sequels.

We don't cover the original Psycho at all (albeit a brief 2 minute discussion on it), but we do go in depth about Psycho II, III and IV.

So, how do these sequels stack up, against the granddaddy of all horror films? well, you may just be surprised at our opinions. We also throw in tidbits of knowledge about the making of these films.

Shadow of the Vampire

 

Hey friends, horror month continues on the MMC, and this week we take a look at the little independent film, that dares to ask - Was Max Schreck REALLY a vampire? Producer Nicolas Cage, actors John Malkovich and Willem Dafoe, along with out there filmmaker E. Elias Merhige pose this question in Shadow of the Vampire.

 

As to be expected, this episode DOES have talk about the film... but there are tangents in between, you know the drill.

This week, we're examining Kenneth Branagh's adaptation of Mary Shelley's "Frankenstein." Branagh's done some highbrow kino in the past, but this one isn't too well remembered. Is it a misunderstood movie? A rightfully scorned piece of cinema? An excuse for Branagh to run around and throw levers with his shirt off? All this, and more will be revealed. 

Escape From L.A.

 

John and Hunter revisit John Carpenter's Escape From L.A., his tepidly received remake/sequel to Escape From New York. How does it hold up years later? How did it so accurately predict what L.A. would be like today? Is Snake playing basketball cool? All shall be revealed.

The Doodler AKA It‘s Satanic, Until Proven Panic

 

Hey gang, back again with another episode. This time, we go back to the crime world, with another unsolved case - The Doodler.

As per our previous EAR/ONS episodes, we are again joined by Gian Quasar, and another gentleman known simply as 'Dan'.

On it's 30th anniversary, we discuss if this film still holds up (despite it's initial panning from critics) and how it compares to other buddy films of that era.

As usual, when Garo is on, it can - and does get a bit raunchy, so as is to be expected, this episode is NSFW.

Heeeey pond scum. What's up fam? This week Hunter, John, Stu and Eric Zaldivar look at what is arguably the best in the Death Wish film series - Death Wish 4: The Crackdown. Perhaps the fact that this film isn't filled with vile rape scenes from Michael Winner (he thankfully didn't direct this one) leads us to gravitate to claiming this to be the most enjoyable Death Wish film.

Not a very long episode this one, very few (if any) tangents, just straight up Bronson talk.

On this one, we just sit down and talk about a bunch of stuff. Tom Cruise, Satanism, Electric Light Orchestra and Bruce Lees' Cocaine Ring being but some of the things we discuss. Sound like fun? Then listen on, these types of conversations can only be done as the MMC do them.

The All Filler, No Killer episodes will be what we label future tangent episodes, we'll try and do one every 6-8 weeks, sometimes it's good to ditch the film review and just talk (and it's something we can do with but little notice).

MMC Horror Sequel Vs. [Vol.1] - Friday the 13th Part 2 Vs A Nightmare on Elm Street 2

 

Hey friends, we're back with a new episode, and its into the 80's slasher arena we go. No John on this one, so whenever that happens (which is very rare) Stu and Hunter cannot resist covering a horror movie... or two.

 

On this one, we decided to pit 2 horror sequels, of very famous franchises, against each other. 2 films that were the second in the series, and both rushed out a year after their first films, became a huge hit.

 

Is it possible that both films aren't quite the film that their original counterparts are? Or, heaven forbid, they could even be better than the original? To find out what we think, you'll need to listen, and find out.
