Rock Month: Motorhead

 

And so it is, that we wind up Rock Month 2018, but what a band to finish with. Friends, this week,  we bring you, the one, the only - MOTORHEAD.

On this episode we look at 7 Motorhead albums in particular, but also talk all the other albums in their discography briefly too. 

It all makes up for one hell of a show, so sit back, get your Jack Daniels, perch yourself at your beloved Ms. Pac-Man machine and listen on.

Rock Month: Devin Townsend

 

Greetings friends, we are back this week, in search of the perfect cup of coffee, and also week 3 of Rock Month. This time, it's Hunter's pick, and he has gone for Canadian artist, and man of many varied styles - Devin Townsend.

This may be the most interesting Rock Month episode ever, as Townsends music can be polarizing, and his sound, as you will find out, isn't for everybody.

Rock Month: Silverhead

 

Here we are friends, back with week 2 of Rock Month, and what would usually be Hunter's pick (that will be next week) we are actually going with John's this time around. So what obscurity has he pulled out for this year? A band I dare say you (along with Hunter and Stu) have never heard of - Silverhead.

With a discography only spanning two albums (hence the shorter than usual running time for a Rock Month episode) we look at the the band, and it's frontman Michael Des Barres.

So pop on your spandex, grab the blush and lipstick, and listen on with us.

Rock Month: The Macc Lads

 

Eh Up! Ok gang, well it is that time of the year, Rock Month is here!! To start off the month, we head up to the North of England, to Macclesfield to be precise, and focus on (what some folks call) the most offensive band ever to come out of Great Britain - The Macc Lads.

Listen on and hear Hunter and John's reactions, to the (so called) obnoxious (but cleverly written) lyrics and punk rock greatness, while Stu (who chose them for RM) sees them in a different light. Anyway, it is one hell of a way to kick the month off, we'll be back next week with John's pick.

MMC Mystery Bag

Hey friends back with a new episode.. that is kinda old. You see, Stu and John recorded this one a few weeks ago, and it was meant to be out around the same time of its recording, HOWEVER the EAR/ONS story broke and this got pushed aside for that episode.

Anyway there are some references in there to Hunter's wedding that are now long out of date, but nevermind, you understand why now.

So, what does this episode contain? Well it's a little bit of this, and a little bit of that, with some other things sprinkled over it, so.... you are just gonna have to listen and find out.

EAR/ONS III - UNMASKED

 

GOT HIM !!!!!

Hey gang, this week, we return to the world of EAR/ONS with some incredible news. EAR/ONS himself has been caught!!! In what was breaking develpoments of the last 24 hours, from the point of time of our recording, EAR/ONS was turned in by his own daughter of all people, and arrested by Police awaiting trial for multiple counts of murder.

We are joined by our friend Gian Quasar, who has spent years tracking down EAR/ONS, so to say that today is a day that is utterly surreal, would be putting it mildly.

Yes, the same Griffin Dunne who was in An American Werewolf in London. The result is a lot of boomer crap we hate. We apologize ahead of time.

Hey friends, so as promised, here is our review of The Decline of Western Civilization Part. 2. This one stinks of hedonism, and is a great window, into the dying horse, that was the hair metal scene in L.A in 1989. Hardly any of the bands here 'made it', and rightly so, some are ok but unmemorable, some are memorable for the fact they are plain awful.

So grab your hairspray, get  inthe spa, pop open some champagne and grab the nearest Metal chicks and listen on with us. Odin commands it!!!!

The Decline of Western Civilization Part. 1

 

Ok friends, this week, actually the next two weeks, we will be looking at the legendary Penelope Spheeris documentaries - The Decline of Western Civilization.

This week it is Part 1 from 1981, which focuses on the West Coast Punk scene, with performances by The Germs, Fear, X, Circle Jerks and a few others. The documentary is THE seminal Punk documentary, and one of the most influential of all time. I don't think it is too difiicult to guess if we liked it or not... or is it as easy as that?

This week, John and Hunter dive into the new documentary on David Lynch, The Art Life. Rather than focusing on his film career, the movie looks at his early life in the suburbs and as a young artist. We compare the movie favorably to other, lesser David Lynch documentaries, as well as discuss our impressions of Lynch today.

War of the Gargantuas

 

 

This week, John and Hunter return to the kaiju well to discuss Ishiro Honda's War of the Gargantuas. Stu is taking a break, and will return in a few weeks. 

The book we heavily plugged this week was Ishiro Honda: A Life in Film, from Godzilla to Kurosawa by Styve Ryfle and Ed Godziszewski with Yuuko Honda-Yun. We highly recommend it! Buy it on Amazon!

Sherlock Holmes: The Scarlet Claw

 

Hey friends, we're back with a new episode for you. On this one, Stu and John look at the 1944 Sherlock Holmes film THE SCARLET CLAW. While not as an instantly recognisable title as say The Hound of the Baskervilles, it is by no means less important.

It's a Godzilla that throws back to the original, yet throws in a lot of weird quirks of its own in ways that are both good and bad. So listen in, and see what we thought of the King of the Monsters' latest romp through Tokyo.
